Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Winters in Spiti are extremely harsh and temperatures sometimes drop to as low as -20º Celsius. Winters here are frigid and there is no running water in taps. All that Spiti has in winters is the never ending adventure and a white blanket of snow!

As unique as its name, a trip to Spiti Valley is an experience of the ultimate deserted beauty! Separated from fertile Lahaul by the soaring 4551m Kunzum La, the Himalayan region of Spiti is another chunk of Tibet marooned in India. While this region stays cut off from the rest of the world in the months of October to February, you can visit Spiti from March to May to enjoy the snow clad vistas of this gorgeous cold desert.

  • NOTE: Please understand that in the winter, none of the hotels would operate in Spiti Valley. The winter season in Spiti is not the most ideal time to visit as the whole valley gets snowed in and temperatures dip to as low as -30 degrees centigrade in January / February, and some of the link roads to various villages get cut off due to snowfall. It's for this reason, there can be change in itinerary if required.
  • Please note that the food available during this time would be very basic food.
  • At some homestay , you will be using only dry toilets. There will be no running water as the pipes freezes in winter - however, we would try our best to offer you a bucket of hot water everyday. Also, please remember that the electricity and the mobile network (BSNL) would be erratic - and there are chances that some of the roads could get closed due to snowfall - and hence, we may not always visit all the places mentioned in the it itinerary, and we would appreciate it if you would be mentally prepared for a flexible schedule that might be altered on the road - keeping your safety and comfort in mind.
